GLOCK G29 VS Colt Defender

GLOCK and Colt are two of the world’s most popular gun manufacturers. Both companies make powerful handguns for concealed carry. Learning more about the GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender will help you decide what type of gun you want.

The GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender have some features in common. For the most part, though, they’re very different weapons. Compare them to decide which one will work better as your everyday carry.

GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender: Dimensions and Weights

If you prefer a smaller gun for concealed carry, then the Colt Defender will appeal to you. If you like the look and feel of a larger model, then you’ll probably want the GLOCK 29.

The GLOCK 29 has an overall length of 6.97 inches. The width measures 1.38 inches, and the height measures 4,53 inches. Compared to a lot of handguns, it has a fairly small design. With an empty magazine, the G29 weighs 26.81 ounces. With a loaded magazine, the weight goes up to 32.63 ounces. It’s just a tad over 2 pounds.

The Colt Defender SS is even smaller. It has a 6.5-inch overall length. A quarter-inch may not sound like much, but it matters quite a bit when you want to conceal a handgun. With an empty cartridge, the Colt Defender weighs 24 ounces. Again, that’s just enough to notice a difference when you carry the weapon during a long day.

The Colt Defender may seem like the better CCW. Realistically, most people will like either model’s dimensions and weight.

GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender: Ammos and Capacities

The GLOCK 29 uses 10mm bullets that pack quite a punch. With a standard magazine, the gun carries 10 bullets. You can upgrade to a 15-round magazine for more shots, though.

The Colt Defender uses .45 ACP bullets. Many people who carry for self-defense point out that the larger size of .45 ACP bullets gives them more stopping power. The Colt Defender, however, has a 7+1 capacity. If you choose the G20 with an extended magazine, you get more than twice as many shots as someone carrying a Colt Defender. Then, again, each bullet from the Colt Defender has more power behind it.

There isn’t a clear winner when it comes to 100mm and .45 ACP bullets. The quality of the bullets you buy will also play a role. In this case, it makes sense to visit a gun range and try both options. You may notice that you like one more than the other. Then again, you may decide that they’re close enough that you don’t have a preference.

GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender: Prices

There’s a big difference between the prices of the GLOCK 29 and the Colt Defender. Most retailers sell the GLOCK 29 for about $550. It isn’t the cheapest gun you can buy, but it isn’t expensive.

The Colt Defender retails for about $999. Some stores charge a little more or a little less. Either way, expect to spend about a grand on a Colt Defender. At that price, you’re getting closer to high-end CCWs. Is it worth spending $450 more on a Colt Defender? That depends on how much money you have. For some people, the extra $450 means that they will always choose the GLOCK 29. Other buyers won’t bat an eye at $999.

Getting the Most Out of Your GLOCK 29 or Colt Defender

There are good arguments for the GLOCK 29 and Colt Defender as CCWs. It comes down to personal preference and money. There are a few things that you can do to make both guns more effective.

Most importantly, practice using the CCW you choose. Every gun has its unique personality, so you need to know it well before you carry the weapon in public.

Also, get a holster that will improve your CCW’s safety. Concealment Express has holsters designed for the GLOCK 29 and for Colt handguns. The holsters make sure that your gun stays in position throughout the day. Whether you spend most of your time at a desk or on your feet, you never have to worry about your gun slipping out of position.
